English Country Bedroom Shop & Style

Hello friends!

Today we are sharing the final (for now) makeover of our master bedroom! If you read our bedroom inspiration & DIY post and watched the first episode on YouTube, you will have followed the evolution of this room from 2019 to today. Things have improved!

Here is where we finished in the first episode with our DIY projects. A fresh coat of paint (removing the accent wall), elegant pinch pleat linen drapes and warm natural bamboo blinds made the biggest difference in backdrop of this space.

Most of you know how much I love pattern mixing and in this phase of the bedroom makeover I wanted to add some pattern in the blue and white color scheme. Even before we hung the new curtains and blinds I began playing with the art, fabrics, and decor that I’d been gathering for the makeover.

I find most every part of a makeover fun, but playing with fabrics and decor is especially enjoyable! This time around we had some budget money allocated for decor and I felt that designer, custom made throw pillows would be the best route to take for an intentional, cohesive look.

These two blue & white patterns from shops on Etsy caught my eye and I began scheming around them. In mixing patterns it is good pay attention to scale. The mid-sized pillows were covered in a medium scale and the small lumbar pillow had the largest scale.

If pattern mixing intrigues and intimidates you, then you might be interested in our course Pattern Mixing Basics for Interiors Once you get that hang of it, a whole new level of confidence and excitement awaits in creating the home you love and that reflects your personal tastes!

To be sure that these patterns would work well I created this image on Canva as a mock up of what the pillows would look like on our bed ~ and I love it! This step helped me to move ahead with confidence in placing our custom order.

From my favorite inspiration images I noticed that chests of drawers or dressers were used as night stands very effectively. The bed is the focal point in the bedroom and having a larger more substantial piece of furniture seemed to balance the size and scale of the bed better. Plus, these antique pieces are taller and functionally easier to use for reading in bed. I found this gorgeous Eastlake chest of drawers on Marketplace for $90!

The top needed some repair and one of the drawers was missing a slider and back stops to prevent the drawer from being pushed in too far. Matt did the repairs on the interior of the chest while I peeled out drawer liners and gave the chest a good cleaning. We had a special plan for fixing the top…

The English ivy printed drawer liner came out easily. This name was written inside one of the drawers… I wonder who McCurry was?

We decided to go with a classic, timeless quarts top with a furniture-like OG edge to replace the damaged top. These two pieces look so good together and as if they were meant to be. I couldn’t be more pleased with how this project turned out!

If, in the future, we decide to go with wallpaper I might try a small all-over wallpaper in a light blue would lend a cozy, cottage-y feeling for the background layer. I found this misty blue gingham from Wallpaperdirect.com and ordered samples. It is soft, subdued, and within our home color palette.

Again, creating a mood board in Canva can go a long way to giving you an idea of how your design dreams might look and feel in real life. I love the timeless country vibes of this gingham!

Here is the final look of our bedroom. I’m loving the calm feeling with the scenic oil paintings, the elegance of the white pinch-pleat drapes, the warm natural tones of the bamboo, the pattern play with the pillows, and the stunning Eastlake dresser!

And, who knows, since there is always space for another layer in the English country house style wallpaper could be in the future!

Here are a couple of mock up photos with a blue and white color wallpaper scheme. I love the look!

Until next time, Take care,

Rachel
